About the Firm
My name is Kate Swedlow
I am an experienced litigator, wife, mother, PTA President, and Cub Scout leader. Advocacy is in my blood. I left the traditional practice of law in 2012, choosing to travel the world with my active-duty military husband. After cross-country adventures and a European sabbatical, my husband retired and I opened Swedlow Law, offering freelance litigation support to attorneys nationwide and serving as an advocate for those seeking benefits after their military service.
Don't let legal pressures overwhelm you. Keep calm, and call Kate.
About the firm
Kate Swedlow is an experienced litigator offering freelance litigation support to attorneys nationwide. Since joining the South Carolina bar in 2003, Kate spent years trying cases in magistrate, state, and federal courts. She has represented individuals, employers, law enforcement, social services, and small businesses in matters ranging from personal injury and property damage to constitutional violations. Kate is experienced in legal research, drafting, case analysis, and trial preparation. Licensed to practice law in South Carolina, Kate now provides litigation support to attorneys in any jurisdiction.
Kate left the traditional practice of law in 2012, after moving across the country with her new husband, an officer in the US Army. The Army assignments took the Swedlow family to California, Florida, Italy, and back to Maryland. Multiple moves and starting a family did not lend itself to building a law practice, so Kate enjoyed her time focusing on family. She volunteered in many different capacities including with tutoring projects, family readiness groups with the Army, and the Red Cross. Her experience volunteering with service members and their families provides a personal connection with US veterans now as they navigate the VA disability appeals process.
With her husband retired and the moving stopped, Kate opened this freelance and veterans disability practice in 2021. Building from existing business relationships and creating new connections, Kate has grown her practice to include veteran-clients across the country and freelance work in multiple jurisdictions and practice areas to include personal injury, construction defects, family law, contract disputes, constitutional claims, and appellate arguments. Freelance work allows Kate to maintain the work-life balance she needs as the President of the Elkridge Elementary School PTA and Committee Chair for her son’s Cub Scout Pack 432.
Through Swedlow Law, Kate puts her litigation experience to work for attorneys that want the help. Don’t let the pressures of a litigation practice overwhelm you. Freelance litigation support gives you the backup you need without the expense of an associate. Whether you need help with client reports, case strategy, research, or drafting, Swedlow Law can help.
Likewise, Kate's personal relationship with the military community drove her to help veterans navigate the bureaucratic process of disability claims with Veterans' Affairs. Military benefits are earned through service to the United States, and Kate works for each of her veteran-clients to ensure that the United States serves its veterans too. The process can be confusing and overly-complicated, but veterans do not have to navigate it alone. Swedlow Law can help.
